And there is no shortage of options in the countertop industry. Even once you narrow it down to a material, there are typically dozens, if not hundreds of custom options to sort through. The good news is it’s easy to get something unique that your friends and family have never seen before. One thing can make the process easier no matter what kind of top you are interested in, though. Which wood species will compliment my kitchen?

So you have finally realized that it’s a custom wood countertop that is the missing puzzle piece that will complete your perfect kitchen…that’s good news. We can get to the important stuff. Like picking out the species! This is my favorite part of helping my customers though the decision making process because it’s the area that I am least helpful. I can say a dozen good things about every wood species we carry, and I usually will. We can typically rule out a few species off the bat for color reasons, but many woods you will find look great in multiple applications, and on several different color cabinets.Walnut Bar Top

Chances are you’ve spent time perusing sites like Houzz or Pinterest and have a wood species that speaks to the vision you have for your kitchen. If not, you need to ask questions about the woods and how they hold up to what you have in store for your countertop. Look at pictures of different kitchens and find ones similar in color scheme and style to what you want. When you narrow it down to a few species that you love, don’t be afraid to ask for a custom sample to bring home if it will help you get there.
